1946 The Inter-Varsity Club started in London,
originally as a club for undergraduates on vacation.
1954 Birmingham Branch inaugurated as a subsidiary of London IVC
Now mainly for recent graduates.
Office 142 Suffolk Street.
Activities – Country Walking, Scottish Dancing, Bridge, Squash,
Table Tennis, Theatre, Debating.
1955 Membership – 94 male, 139 female, 233 total.
Membership fee 10/- (50p).
1957 Started to lease farmhouse – Llwyn-onn Isaf near Barmouth.
1958 Birmingham Inter-Varsity Club became independent of London 3rd Nov.
1959 Premises acquired at 90a Hurst Street.
1962 First new year weekend.
1967 Maximum age of 40 introduced (removed in 1979).
1969 Leased 65 Barwick Street (top floor).
Membership: 130 male, 195 female, 325 total.
(kept to maximum 3:2 female:male).
Average age 28.
1988 Bought 291 Corporation Street for £40,000 (near Aston Expressway).
(Barwick Street being re-develpoed, lease not renewed)
Average age 33.
1993 Left farmhouse (when lease not renewed).
1994 Became company limited by guarantee (as easier to own property).
1998 Sold Corporation Street premises for £38,000.
Membership fee reduced to £25.
